Andrea Gerak: Who is Andrea Gerak?

Andrea Gerak (Gerák, pronounced "gheraak") - Singer & Dancer

Andrea Gerak had her first stage performance at the age of 5, in her home town Kazincbarcika, Northern Hungary. From a few years later on, she has been dancing and singing in several folklore groups in, in the Borsod, Avas, Csepel and Bartok dance ensembles where she was often the soloist. As a dancer, she appears in the Golden Bear awarded movie Music Box by Constantinos Costa-Gavras, seen even in the trailer.

Today Andrea lives in Stockholm and Budapest, and is mostly involved in singing. She takes the listener to a trip to the melodies of various ethnicities such as Irish or Gypsy, and staying true to her roots, she sings Hungarian folk songs as her main profile, performing them acapella, with traditional folk band or as new age/world fusion, lending her unmistakable voice to compositions of international artists.

Besides working with traditional Hungarian folk bands, Andrea is currently creating projects with Effi Shoshani (Israel), Cambridge (Spain), Julien Matei and Ewa Wikström (Sweden), Beata Salamon (Hungary)

Performed in most of the countries of Europe at festivals, clubs, exhibition openings, churches, private, corporate and community events, benefits. In 2006, featured performer of the Brugge Festival of World Music, with the Transylvanian traditional folk band Barozda.

Concert info

Andrea Gerak is available for performing worldwide, at the most various occasions (except political campaigns).

PROGRAMS:

Solo

- acapella songs (Hungarian, Irish, Gypsy, Balkan, etc folk songs). It can be a beautiful moment for any event, with a few matching songs to the occasion. From 1 or 2 songs, up to 90 minutes.

In her solo show Little Songs From A Big World Andrea Gerak takes the listener to a trip through acapella folk songs of her upcoming same titled album, from Hungary to Turkey, Ireland, Solomon Islands, Peru and more, even linking some of the melodies to other genres such as pop or jazz, telling stories about the background of each song, dancing, truly communicating with the audience. (In English and/or Hungarian, depending on the audience)

Rider for solo performances:

1 voice microphone, and if not acapella songs, a CD player for background music. (Depending on the acoustics, Andrea prefers to perform without mic, wherever possible)
